Horizontal trim board along the roof edge. Gutters hang from it. Failure is usually hidden rot.
The horizontal trim board that runs along the roof edge, nailed to the ends of the roof rafters. Gutters hang from it. On wood-framed homes the fascia is typically pine covered with aluminum wrap; rot happens at the wood core when water gets behind the wrap through a failed seam or damaged gutter.
Visible damage to fascia is rare because of the aluminum wrap. We photograph the fascia during every gutter cleaning as a free inspection — wood rot caught early is a $40 repair; ignored, it’s a $400+ section replacement.
