Sodium hypochlorite
Bleach-based mold-killer used in soft-washing. Diluted + combined with surfactant for exterior work.
Active ingredient in household bleach and in the professional soft-wash mixes used to kill mold and algae on exterior surfaces. In professional use, it’s diluted with water (typically 1-2% active solution) and combined with a surfactant so it clings to vertical surfaces long enough to work.
Safe for most painted and unpainted exterior materials when applied correctly. Can damage plants if not pre-wet and rinsed. Discolors fabric permanently — we cover outdoor furniture and cushions before starting.
